Kevin Larkins is an untraditional Composer/musician. He tries to heavily focus on real sounds and use computer generated sounds as little as possible. Only using computer generating sounds as accents or to slightly elevate his music. He always has been a feeling musician, playing by ear. Substantially focusing on the emotions and primal feelings of what music can do. He plays multiple instruments himself but has access to countless musicians and really works with other talent to create the ideal mood or emotion a scene or project is striving to convey. The philosophy of, anything can be used as an instrument, whether that be a random piece of metal, a real tree, to something most people would consider trash, anything can be used or combined to make unique sounds and melodies to make a one of a kind piece. Kevin strives to evoke the upmost intensity of a specific emotion for that particular project. Always tries to work in direct correlation with the projects goals and vision. He is very open to going back to correct the right melodies or feel, for the certain scene to try an evoke the most out of the human soul. Although knows notation and musical theory, doesn't abide by those rules and rather go with pure feelings straight from the gut, and tries to maximize a human emotion as much as possible. He self taught himself piano and guitar, then went and studied at The Musicians Institute in Hollywood CA. He then began teaching himself drums and string instruments from all over the world. Having many mentors from various styles of music along the way. Over the last decade he has cultivated a laboratory of sounds. He is also an instrument builder, building many instruments including a Yaybahar, an instrument that only has 4 or so in existence. Kevin’s two biggest influences are John Williams and Tom Waits. He is well versed in traditional American blues and folk music, but also the first album he ever bought was the sound track to Jurassic Park.
Also he has played live for countless celebrities and famous musicians. He single handedly created an intricate board game, and created a whole booth that looked like a wizards study, touring the country selling games. He has cage dove with great white sharks and traveled all over the world, trying to soak in as much of life as possible. Gathering instruments along the way.
